This scar is on my knee and is one of my most prominent scars. The original injury occurred in my preteens while riding bikes with my best friend Thomas. I was staying at Thom s house that day and I didn t have my own bike so I had to borrow his sister s bike or risk being excluded from that afternoon s ride. A combination of a rickety bike and the rough road led to an unfortunate spill halfway back to Thom s house. The road was full of potholes and sharp rocks that tore through my jeans, through my skin and down to the soft white cartilage of my knee. I was shocked to see bits of white peeking out through the hole in my skin. When I got back to Thom s house I refused to take my pants off in front of Thom s mom and insisted that I dress the wound myself. Later when Thom s dad got home he teased me for not wanting to remove my trousers for his wife.
