When I die I would like to have a memorial ceremony at someone's house. Designate a spot for people to speak, make sure there is a sound system to play my favorite song loudly and have plenty of chairs. I don't want a party. Not yet. I would really like all of my friends to be there, even people that I didn't know very very very well. My friends are the closest thing I have to a family, so for me...people being there that I was friends with, even peripherally, is important. I would like my best friend in the whole world Shaina to speak about our crazy adventures and to play a song on her guitar, the Bright Eyes song "This Is The First Day of My Life". I would also love to have my good friend Chris Woods speak, even though I know he won't really want to. I would enjoy it if my friend Sarah wrote something and read it. I would like my friend Phil Van Hest to be second to last to speak because he knows me well and I'm sure he would do a good job ( but please Phil, reign in the funny business.) Lastly I would like Adam Hartnett to write something and read it to close things out, this is very important to me. Then I would like anyone else who wants to share a thought or memory about me, even if it's negative, to share. I think this is the most important part, I just really want people to open up and talk and share things, because at funerals usually everyone is too sad or nervous to talk about the person who has passed, but I would truly like to just have a service of people sharing thoughts and memories. Then I would like the Elliott Smith song 2:45 AM to be played. Then I would like people to party. The morning after, I would like my Mom, Dad, Shaina, Adam, Chris, Phil, Sarah Mason, AND NO ONE ELSE to go and scatter my ashes at Prospect Park, on the lawn, by the Theatre. If any of the aforementioned people would like some of my ashes, let them have it.
