Mike: "Aubbb..."
Me: "Hi."
Mike: "What are you doing? Did you get my message?"
Me: "Yeah, I was asleep when you called."
Mike: "Where have you been?"
Me: "Oh, I've been around. I have been stressed and anti-social lately, so... anyway, I'm at work right now."
Mike: "COOL DUDE. You LOVE that."
Me: "Ha-ha, yeah. Hey... I have to tell you something."
Mike: "Okay."
Me: "Here it is. I love you."
Mike: "Since when?"
Me: "Since my 19th birthday when I helped you shop for jeans. I hadn't been in love before so I just figured it was some other warm feeling. I knew it was love when your compliments started to feel like punches to the gut."
Mike: "Um. I had no idea... I..."
Me: "I know. It's okay. I figured. At first I thought that you must have known; I imagined that you could feel my heart beating hard against yours every time we hugged, but after two years you would have said something because if you really did feel my heart beating against yours I would think you would have mentioned it."
Mike: "I'm sorry "
Me: "Don't be. I just wanted you to know. I need you to know. So I can move on."
Mike: "Wait, move on?"
Me: "Yeah, move on."
Mike: "From me?"
Me: "No, not from you, from that feeling. You are my best friend and I have been lying to you for two years. I have secretly hated you and loved you all at once, and every time you asked, "How are you?" I always said, "I'm okay." Every time you say girls here think you're shit, all I've wanted to do was hug you and kiss you and say, "It's not true. Girls don't think you're shit, they think you're THE shit and one of those girls just happens to be me." And even though you would have appreciated it, your lack of reciprocation would have broken my heart and our friendship."
Mike: "I don't know what to say."
Me: "Just say you want to go to Zankou later and get falafel wraps. I know that's why you called."
Mike: "I want to go to Zankou later to get falafel wraps."
Me: "Me too, I haven't eaten all day. Do you want me to come with you? I get off at five."
Mike: "Yeah, just come over. I'm going to be playing Counter Strike."
Me: "Okay. Bye."
