Me: Hey, I finally got a hold of you.

Ann: Oh, yeah. Well, I've just been here. At my parents' house, in L.A. Nothing exciting to report, so I guess that's why I haven't been very good at being in touch. Um, well, how are you?

Me: I'm good, I guess. I've just been doing the usual things-work, school, uhh. This is awkward.

Me: You know what's weird? I've been having dreams where we hang out, and sit outside our old apartment, smoking your shitty cigarettes, talking about the same old stuff. I wake up thinking it's really happened, because there isn't anything out of the ordinary about the dreams. We sit around and talk, and then one of us will go to the bathroom, or answer the phone, it's almost pointless to be dreaming about it.

Ann: Ha. You must miss me so much, huh? I thought people only have those "hanging out" dreams when someone dies.

Me: Well, it sound ridiculous, but I'm glad we're talking right now. Everyone's been asking where you are, and what you're doing. I had a thought in the back of my mind that you were dead, which is totally morbid.

Ann: Ha. Remember when we sat around eating ice cream on a blanket in the middle of nowhere after your car broke down? I was so pissed at you.

Me: I want to see you. We should talk-about you know. I didn't know that it happened to you, too.

Ann: Well, it's better now, I guess. I don't know. Oh-I have to go right now.

Me: I guess I am worried about you. And I miss you. And-

Ann: Sorry, my Mom is calling me. Bye, uh, it was nice talking to you. I'm sure we'll talk again before the next year rolls by.

Me: Well

Me: O.K.

Me: Bye.
