Me: Hello. This is Lore.
Ben: Hi! This is Ben. I bet you didn't expect to hear from me.
Me: Ben Johnson? Ohmigod! I can't believe it! I've tried to track you down on the Internet so many times and yet I have never tried to call any of the numbers I've found. I'm so glad to hear from you. How are you?
Ben: Great! I'm married again and very happy. We have two kids and we live in Virginia. I work for a nonprofit foundation as a human resources director. How about you? What are you doing these days?
Me: I do technical writing for X, a market research firm. I love doing technical writing and I find my work to be satisfying in most ways, except that I don't feel it contributes to the greater good beyond my one-on-one contacts with the people with whom I work. I live with Ray in a little town north of Clearwater. We moved in together 12 years ago. Last time I was in touch with you I was married to Dana. That ended in 1992. He was very jealous and trying to maintain contact with you was generating conflict between us so I gave up. I have regretted losing touch with you many times.There's so many things I have wanted to tell you but I have also wondered if it's too late to do so.
Ben: I get back to Florida about once or twice a year. Maybe we could catch up during one of my visits.
